Elementary Band
Beginner Band
​The purpose of beginner band is to introduce children to the playing of instruments, beginning music theory, and the understanding of the musical language. Emphasis is on listening skills, ensemble playing and music theory. The student will perform together at two school concerts each year.
Advanced Band
​
Advanced band is for 2nd and 3rd year players in the elementary school. In this class, the student works through their method books, rehearses and performs symphonic repertoire. Emphasis is on listening skills, ensemble playing and music theory. The student will perform together at two school concerts each year.
6th Grade Jazz Band
Prerequisite: An advanced ability to play a band instrument (woodwind, brass, or rhythm section – piano, bass, drums, guitar), read music and audition with teacher approval. 6th Graders.
In this class, the student rehearses and performs popular jazz repertoire. Emphasis is on sight-reading, listening skills, improvising, ensemble playing and music theory. The student will perform at two school concerts each year.
